It finally feels like summer. We are now getting up to 25 degrees and life starts happening outside. Children playing outside, adults sitting in the sun enjoying their coffee or an after-work beer. The parks are getting more crowded, and it feels like every single person living in London is trying to get as much sun as possible. It is simply beautiful!
I am currently at the end of my last term which means that I am now in the lab every day working on my final dissertation. When I am not in the lab, I try to make as much out of the time left in London as possible, by exploring areas in London that I have not been to, going to different concerts and enjoying the life outside in the sun. I have even planned some trips throughout the summer. I figured since I am already in the UK, I should include a Scotland trip. I have always wanted to visit Scotland since I was a little child and in July, I will finally have the chance to go. The plan is to do a round trip starting in Edinburgh and continuing North via Aberdeen to Kirkwall and Stromness. Then, we are planning on going to Inverness (and hopefully we will be able to see the Loch Ness Monster ) and terminating our round trip in Glasgow and Edinburgh again. I will let you know how the trip was and maybe give you some recommendations based on my experiences travelling through Scotland. So, stay tuned!
A one-year Master is unbelievably short. When coming here I thought that I had so much time and I came prepared with an extensive list of things to do and places to go. Even though I tried to do trips every weekend and I was busy almost every night, there are still so many things that I would love to do in London. But I guess that just means that I must come back. In general, if you are planning on doing a city trip to London, make sure that you have plenty of time because unlike most cities that I have been to so far, London has so much to offer that a week is barely enough! Especially, because every part of London is like a city of its own.
My highlights from the last month:
In The beginning of May, I went to a pop-up second-hand store near Covent Garden. London has a variety of really good second-hand shops, but I definitely loved this one because it was set up in such a lovely way in a church.
At the moment, my family is visiting, and we went to the Peaky Blinders Play in Camden Market. That was such a unique experience. The play was not like a normal play in which you have seats, and you just watch the actors perform. It was an interactive play. We were part of the Peaky Blinders family, were involved in horse bets, drank whiskey, and experienced the victory of the Peaky Blinders over Sabini. It was a concept that I have never experienced before but I loved it. However, their strong Irish accents were sometimes quite hard to understand if you are not a native speaker. So, if you intend to go then make sure you have watched the show beforehand otherwise it will be hard to follow. And hurry up because the play will only take place until the end of May.
