Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your background in filmmaking? What inspired you to pursue a career in the film industry?

I started my career at Lars von Trier’s Zentropa Productions as a runner, then worked my way up to producer’s assistant. Fascinated by the company’s international collaborations, I moved to the UK to pursue a career as a producer and advance my knowledge of the international market.

What does being part of Berlinale Talents mean to you? Is there something about the city that resonates with your creative process?

I’m very honoured and grateful at being selected and becoming part of the festival. I used to come to Berlinale as a runner/producer assistant with Zentropa, dreaming of having my own feature screened alongside the amazing selection of films. The magic of the city, its vibrancy, art and diversity is very inspiring for someone championing underrepresented stories.

How do you balance expressing your unique voice and creating something that can be recognised globally?

As a producer, I believe the best way to express myself is by advocating for others to be heard. I’m drawn to unique stories told organically by diverse and underrepresented voices, and I’ve been fortunate enough to collaborate with filmmakers from all walks of life whose original and authentic takes on universal themes such as love, grief, and overcoming adversity have produced beautiful works of art. I feel grateful that part of my job is working with people who help me learn and grow as a human being.

How does this year’s theme, "Common Tongues: Speaking Out in the Language of Cinema", resonate with your work and creative process?

It’s very aligned. As a female filmmaker with a diverse background, I feel it’s important to champion those whose voices have historically been silenced. This year’s theme not only stresses the need for people to join meaningful discussions, but highlights the importance of listening. Our differences - whether gender, race, culture, opinions – should never be dismissed as unimportant, and I strive to bring unheard voices and unseen stories to light. I’m honoured and excited to be included in this year’s group of talent from 68 different countries.
