Ursula Martinez is a London-based theatre maker. In her latest show, A Family Outing – 20 Years On, Martinez recreates her very first theatre show "A Family Outing" from 1998. Its recreation is celebrating its German premiere in August at International Summer Festival Kampnagel in Hamburg. "A Family Outing" starred Martinez herself together with her mother Milagros and father Arthur live on stage. 20 years later, Arthur sadly is no longer with us and it is Martinez performing with her mother. "A Family Outing – 20 Years On" uses a projection of the orginal show which dealt with family life, the mother’s migration story, sibling rivalry, and the artists’ homosexuality.
Martinez is now in her 50s, her mother is in her early 80s, suffering from dementia and forgetting her lines. Martinez offers an honest, courageous, funny glimpse into one family's journey.
The International Summer Festival Hamburg takes place for three weeks each August at Kampnagel and selected places in the city of Hamburg. Since its beginning in the mid 80s, the festival has held a position as one of the big European festivals, presenting theatre, dance, visual arts, performance, music and theory from all over the world.
