More than 150 films in 5 days

British Shorts will be back for its 9. edition from 21.-25. January 2016.! And it keeps growing! Besides our beloved festival head quarters Sputnik Kino in Kreuzberg, more venues across the city, such as Acudkino (Mitte), City Kino (Wedding) and Badehaus Szimpla (Friedrichshain), will open their doors to screen some of the finest short films from Britain and Ireland. With screening of more than 150 films in 5 days, every genre will be represented: from comedy, drama, animation, thriller, documentary, horror, experimental and music videos to a retrospective screening dedicated to the animation department of the National Film and Television School (where alumni Nick Park created “Wallace & Gromit”).

Big-budget meets low-budget meets no-budget

Films by well established filmmakers with internationally renowned actors (Michael Fassbender, Judi Dench, Martin Freeman and many others) meet films by promising newcomers and talented film students – a mix which makes British Shorts eclectic and unique. Big-budget meets low-budget meets no-budget. At the end of the festival the winners of a Jury award as well as an audience award will be announced. Some of the prominent names in this year’s programme include, amongst others, Northern Irish Hollywood composer David Holmes (Ocean’s 11) with his directorial debut – captured by Wong-Kar-Wai cinematographer Christopher Doyle (Chungking Express, 2046)  – or the actors/actresses Edward Hogg (Anonymous), Alice Lowe (Sightseers) and Ben Wishaw (007, Perfume: The Story of a Murderer).

Supporting programme

Besides countless screenings the festival’s supporting programme includes concerts, parties, a free film workshop (including a 48-hour film project), an Open Screening and talks with filmmakers. The infamous British Shorts-Bar will create a great festival atmosphere.
