Our annual literature meeting |
 |
 |
The annual seminar in the Dominican monastary of Walberberg, traditionally
taking place during 4 days at the end of January, is designed to introduce
British authors to German academics, publishers, translators and journalists
interested in contemporary British literature.
Chaired by a writer, the seminar involves up to six other writers
who read from their work and engage in lively discussions and individual
conversations with the participants - sometimes until late at night.
Often there is a main theme to the seminar on which the discussions
focus.
The Walberberg seminar boasts an almost 20 year history of bringing
new voices and fresh ideas together. Since the first seminar in 1986
over 70 authors have read in Walberberg.
In 2003 the poet laureate Andrew Motion followed in the footsteps
of Malcolm Bradbury, Caryl Phillips, A S Byatt and Paul Muldoon, amongst
others, as chair of Walberberg.
